Are you too drunk to drive? Call for a ride

There’s nothing wrong with drinking alcohol, as long as you do so in a responsible manner. This means many things, such as staying away from your motor vehicle when you’ve had too much to drink.

Knowing whether or not you’re too drunk to drive is easier said than done. Since it’s better to be safe than sorry, you should always err on the side of caution.

Here are a few ways to determine if you’re too drunk to drive:

  • Listen to your body: If you’re slurring your speech and finding it difficult to walk, you’re too drunk to get behind the wheel. Don’t ignore the common physical signs of intoxication.
  • Add up your drinks: If you’ve consumed one drink over the course of five hours, there’s a good chance you’re okay to drive. However, if you’ve consumed two drinks an hour for five hours, you need to stay away from the road.
  • Buy a Breathalyzer: These devices are available for purchase, even if you don’t work in law enforcement. With one of these, you can test your blood alcohol content (BAC)level at any time.

Even if you’re sober, you shouldn’t assume that every other driver is as well. Keep your eyes open for drunk drivers. If you see someone who may be under the influence, keep your distance and call 911 to report them.

If you’re injured in a drunk driving accident, don’t attempt to talk things out with the other individual. Instead, call 911, administer first aid and obtain treatment at a local hospital. When possible, review the police report and contact your insurance agent to file a claim. Doing all these things can help you obtain compensation for your injuries, medical bills and other damages.
