Man arrested after taking ride-sharing service to his car drunk

If you're caught drinking and heading to your vehicle, a kind officer might tell you to take an Uber or Lyft, to grab a taxi or to call someone for a ride. It would be in your best interests to follow those recommendations instead of getting behind the wheel, because once you do, you can be arrested for drunk driving.

In this case, a man was asked to take a ride-sharing service home, but he thought he could be clever and take it only a short distance back to his vehicle. According to the news, the 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of reckless driving and DUI.

The report states that the man was staying at St. Julien Hotel when the staff called the police to state that the man was drunk and may attempt to drive. Officers discovered him in the hotel, and he was allegedly visibly intoxicated. He said he wasn't planning to drive but was going to take an Uber home. He claimed he had trouble ordering a ride.

An officer saw that he didn't have the app on his phone, so he placed the request for a ride for him on the app. He got into the vehicle when it arrived before getting out at his vehicle, getting into the car and driving the wrong way through the parking garage. His blood-alcohol concentration (BAC) registered at .226 percent on a breath test.

This may be an unusual situation, but the reality is that you should make good decisions instead of trying to avoid an officer's suggestion. With situations like this, it's better to pay the ride-share fee than face a day in court.
