Drive defensively. Drive the speed limit. Follow the rules of the road. Hide your smartphone so it’s out of reach. Don’t drink and drive. You’ve heard the same advice so many times, you’re probably tired of it. Chances are, however, that you’ve never heard the following two driving tips, which very well could prevent you from getting into a fatal collision.

You shouldn’t be able to see your car in your side-view mirrors: If you can see your vehicle in your side-view mirror, then you have made your blind spot bigger than it needs to be. It’s the easiest thing to adjust, just a quick flip of your side-view mirrors and voila! Adjust both your mirrors out sideways a little bit to widen your field of view and you just might eliminate your entire blind spot altogether. You might also prevent your next crash.

Don’t use your brakes if your car tire blows out: Your vehicle tires are made to stop you quickly when you apply the brakes. But if one of your tires blows out, your car will go flying out of control as soon as you try to forcefully press the brake pedal. It sounds a little crazy, but if you have a serious blowout, consider gently maintaining pressure on the gas pedal instead of the brakes. Then, gradually allow your car to slow down in a very controlled fashion.

If you were hurt by a negligent or unlawful motorist or a loved one suffered a serious injury in a car accident, our law firm can help you evaluate whether you have the ability to pursue financial compensation in civil court.
