There is no worse thought than imagining hurting your own child, but it does sometimes happen. When your child is an adult, he or she makes decisions that have consequences far more serious than those he or she might have made as a child. Lashing out could become dangerous and threaten you, which is when you may need to defend yourself against your own flesh and blood.
A man in Washington County no longer faces a second-degree murder charge after an investigation proved that he was only defending himself when he shot his adult son. An Aug. 25 report described the 65-year-old man’s plight; he was charged for the death of his 31-year-old son after his son allegedly attacked him.
The incident occurred at around 8:00 p.m. on Aug. 13. The older man, who is disabled and partially paralyzed, feared for his life when his son pushed him down into a planting pot. While he was on the ground, the man shot his son one time in self-defense. His son was taken to Yuma District Hospital for treatment, but he did not survive the injury. Charges were dismissed in this case because the district attorney was satisfied that all evidence pointed toward self-defense.
It’s hard to imagine anyone wanting to hurt his or her own child. If you have to defend yourself against your child causing you injuries, you aren’t alone. The facts can outweigh fiction, and you can get the help you need as a victim of violence in your home. Your attorney can help you fight any unfair criminal charges.
