What teens should be mindful of during graduation season

As the calendar turns to May, graduation season has arrived and is probably the most exciting time of a teen’s life. They are excited about leaving high school and embarking on a new part of their lives. To that end, teens want to celebrate and party.  The downside of these times is that May and June can be very dangerous for young drivers.

Nipping the Problem of Passenger Distraction in the Bud

When most people think of distracted driving, cell phone use and texting are the first things that come to mind, but one of the biggest distractions is much less "high tech." It's actually passengers. When passengers are looked at officially as a distraction, much of the emphasis goes to teens or other young drivers new to the road. One study by an insurance company found that a teen who drove with just one passenger was twice as likely to get into a fatal accident, and if two or more teens were passengers, five times as many fatal accidents occurred. Many states, and other countries as well, have placed extra passenger restrictions on young drivers to help prevent them from becoming distracted on the road, and therefore not only a danger to those it their vehicle, but anyone else they are sharing the road with as well.

Is drowsy driving dangerous, and why?

Drowsy driving is a serious problem in the United States for a number of reasons. First, it is usually a result of poor sleep, which means the driver is at risk of falling asleep behind the wheel. Second, it's a distraction. Drowsy driving is sometimes combined with distracting behavior, like talking on the phone or texting friends. If you take medications that cause drowsiness and don't get enough sleep, it puts you at a higher risk of falling asleep behind the wheel as well.

Are harsher texting while driving charges coming?

The call for drivers to put down their phones is getting louder this legislative season in Colorado. Texting and driving, often referred to as distracted driving, is a nationwide problem that includes use of cellular phones for a number of non-driving tasks from text messaging to playing games or chatting on social media.

Dangerous ice on the roads causes multiple accidents

Denver can have dramatic changes in weather, and when the winter months are turning to spring, ice and snow begin to become a problem. As these melt, flooding is possible. On cold days, the water refreezes and becomes black ice. For drivers, this is one of the more dangerous times of year.
